Exeter goes Red for Tonga, 14 September 2015

Invitation to the Tonga Tourism Industry Day
The Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Labour together with Tonga Tourism Authority have set a day as “Tourism Industry Day” to emphasize the significant contribution that Tourism plays on our countries economic development. This event will be held on Thursday 21st to Friday 22nd May 2015 at Fa’onelua Convention Centre. Important workshops and valuable discussions will be conducted regarding what we can do to lift our Tourism Industry, and what needs to be maintained and improved. Followed by an overview of where our Tourism Industry will sit in the near future.

Recent trip to the World’s Newest Island, 28 April 2015
A one in a lifetime chance to visit Tonga’s brand new island which hasn’t even been named yet, but is referred to as Hunga Tonga – Hunga Ha’apai. Organised by Friendly Island Shipping Agency (Otuanga Ofa) were able to visit the new island over the weekend on Anzac Day, Saturday 25th April 2015.

Public Holiday Monday, March 2 2015
The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed and declared Monday, March 2 as a public holiday. The public holiday is to honour and celebrate the ordination of the Kingdom’s first Catholic Cardinal, Soane Patita Mafi.
Coronation to be held on July 4 2015
The Kingdom of Tonga celebrates the Coronation of His Majesty King George Tupou VI. The Palace Office has confirmed the date for the coronation, and is to also be held at the Pangai Lahi field and the Royal Palace compound.
Cruise Ship Season 2015
The Kingdom of Tonga has had a wonderful start to the new cruise ship season with Ms Silver Whisper visiting January 23rd, followed by the Amsterdam, Ms Marina and Ms Seven Seas Mariner during the weekend of January 31 and February 1.
This week Nuku’alofa was very delighted to have two cruise ships grace Tongan waters again. The Japanese Ms Asuka II and The Queen Elizabeth, with over 2000 visitors exploring the Kingdom’s capital.
The next cruise ship to arrive is Costa Deliziosa on Saturday, March 7th, with over 3000 expected passengers and crew on ship.
Hunga Ha’apai and Hunga Tonga Volcano Update
19 January 2015
Volcanologists have assessed Tonga’s current volcano eruption and have concluded that “ash is wet and falls quickly” and therefore is no longer affecting aviation heights.
